Review: One Day Soon by A. Meredith Walters

One Day Soon (One Day Soon, #1)One Day Soon by A. Meredith Walters

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary:

He found me in blood and tears.
I stayed with him through darkness and fire.

We loved each other in the moment between innocence and bitter truth.
We were the kids easily ignored, who grew into adults we hardly knew.

We weren’t meant to last forever. And we didn’t.

He ran away.
I tried to move on.

Yet I never stopped thinking about the boy who had fought to keep me alive in a world that would have swallowed me whole. He was the past that I buried, but never forgot.

Until the day I found him again, years after believing I had lost him forever.

And in cold, resentful eyes, I saw the heart of the man who had been everything when I had nothing at all. So I vowed to hold onto the second chance that was stolen from the children we had been.

Sometimes fate is ugly. Life can be twisted.
And who we are can be ruined by who we once were.

For two people who had survived so much, we would have to learn how to hold on before we were forced to let go.

Most lives can be narrowed down to significant moments. Mine was no different. I knew the event that had changed me.

Life isn’t all rainbows and unicorns. Sometimes life is like living in the mud and you feel like you’re sinking deeper and deeper into the pit. If you are looking for a happy, romantic kind of story, this book isn’t for you (at least not in the moment). Like I said, there are times when life is like living in the mud. One Day Soon is that kind of story.

This book left me heartbroken for days. There was a painful yet exciting feeling about not knowing whether the story will end happily or not, and that made my reading experience more thrilling and heartbreaking. When I started the book, I felt like my heart was breaking bit by bit, but it was painstakingly enjoyable. In the end, it was all worth it.

Without spoiling anything, I’m gonna tell you a little about this book.

One Day Soon is a Standalone New Adult Contemporary Romance about the sad and heartbreaking story of Imi and Yoss–two teenagers who met during the lowest season of their lives. Imogen or Imi is a runaway sixteen year old girl who was living with her neglectful mother before she decided to leave their home for good. Yossarian Frazier or Yoss is an eighteen year old homeless boy who instantly became Imi’s friend and protector. They became everything for each other as they tried to survive the life in the pit. Soon they began to dream that one day they will find a happy life together.

Sad and heartbreaking, raw and emotional. This book tore my heart into a thousand pieces and I don’t think I will ever put the pieces back again. My heart was a mess. It took everything in me not to sob and I guess that was a bad thing because until now I haven’t fully recovered. One Day Soon is definitely one of the most heartbreaking books I came across with and reading it was all worth it. It is one of the special books that I will always remember and the kind that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Here was a boy barely holding himself together. He seemed as though he wanted to curl into himself. I wanted to shield him from everything horrible. Everything ugly.
Just as he had been trying to do for me.
Yossarian Frazier wasn’t an overly complicated person. He was smart. He was thoughtful. He was generous and kind. He was loyal to a fault.
And he was someone who had been forced to make choices that would shatter most people. I could see the fragments being chipped away little by little as he struggled to hold on.
Yet he still sat beside me, with concern on his face, wanting to know if I was all right. When it was obvious he wasn’t.

***

Even though it was painful to read most of the times, this book is an eye-opener to some of the ugly truths in life. Maybe not all happy stories have happy endings, but sometimes it’s the saddest parts that make up a beautiful story.

And the ending? Well, I’ll just say it’s beautiful and I am pleased with how the story ends. I’m not gonna tell if this book is a HEA (Happily Ever After) or not. I hope the readers experience the thrill of finding out for themselves.

***
Maybe after all these years, I was still just that girl standing up in the rain. Waiting for a boy who would never come.
